The "Terrible Teacher" meme is very popular among websites like Memebase.com. It depicts a young teacher who seems very smart so the student would trust her and believe she is a competent teacher. Every meme, however, always states a bad thing that a teacher would do. This is a humorous meme as we can all relate to bad teachers in the past and the kinds of things they would do and say. The audience for this meme is generally towards students, mainly in the high school to college age, as those students have the most experience with all kinds of teachers. Those who do well in school and don't seem to have a complaint about anything might be a constraint, but I can't imagine how many of those people exist. Another possible constraint would be those who don't go to school or who don't have bad teachers (it could happen!) or those too young too understand why or how a teacher could be bad. Grant Davie's ideas of these things are a little more straightforward and direct. He uses detailed descriptions and ideas to get his point across.

According to Porter, Imagining writing "as individual, as isolated, as heroic" can be harmful. Porter explains that nothing written is ever purely genuine because it always derives from another source in one way shape or form. I would completely agree; every one's thoughts always come from another source, even if it wasn't intentional or derived from the opposition. He uses Thomas Jefferson as an example when Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson used ideas and theories by John Locke and put them in his own words. All educational writings need references and recourses to have their ideas set in motion. Porter also states that if a writer or student can't be completely set in their discourse community, they will not be able to write effectively; if the writer or student isn't completely immersed in their discourse community then Porter believes it could lead to plagiarism. I wonder if a writer could not plagiarize while in their discourse community? It seems as if the discourse community is a place where people come to understand each others' ideas, so how can any ideas be original at all? I believe that if you want to have an original idea, then you need to be on your own with your own thoughts. The only true inner inspiration has to come from you, not from what others have taught you or what you've learned from other's mistakes. I, however, don't think it's possible to not be inspired from others' lessons and mistakes, so there's not really much room for true inner inspiration.

Hi! My name is Tim Martin. I am from Hilliard, Ohio and went to Hilliard Darby High School, where I graduated in 2009. I am the youngest of 4 and my siblings now live in 3 separate states. I am a junior music education on trumpet. I am also in the marching 110 and I am in the drumline playing the snare drum. I am a member of Kappa Kappa Psi which is a fraternity that aims to help the bands at OU, specifically the Marching 110. I will be touring with The Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps this summer on the snareline which is a very large financial and time commitment!
In Eng 151, I enjoyed the freedom of writing about what I wanted to write about because I could really dive into the topic that I was interested in. I was not a huge fan of having to write research papers that are aimed to just give information, however. I love to write about what I believe in and my interests.
I think I will enjoy this class as I think the internet is a very interesting place to read about other people and see how they think and what they believe; nobody holds back on the internet because it's not threatening. I'm kind of hoping that I will gain a better understanding of how to use the internet to express myself and how to understand others. I've never taken a course that I was able to use wikipedia, let alone make one! I'm a little worried that that course load will be too great, as I am taking 21 credit hours this quarter and I will be very busy with one of my extra-curricular activities(Drum Corps) but I think I will will be able to handle it; I took 23 credit hours last quarter!
